The center of our worship is the cross and the Savior who died upon the cross and rose again on the third day. This central focus is apparent from what one sees upon entering the nave at AgnusDei There, front and center is the cross upon the altar. The altar is the place from which our Lord Jesus gives us nothing less than His own body and blood in the Sacrament. Because it is His true body and true blood and not just a symbol of His presence, the Lord’s Supper is administered with great care among us. We practice closed Communion, which has been the practice of the Christian church throughout the ages. (Click HERE to read the statement that occurs in our bulletins.)
The second most notable feature of our church is the pulpit for the blessings of Jesus also come to us in the Word proclaimed.
Because Christ and His salvation is the center of our worship, we retain the historic orders of service. These orders extol Christ and His salvation. They fill our ears with the Good News of the mercy of the Triune God. The Holy Spirit working through these orders opens our lips that our mouths may show forth His praise. Having been formed by the piety of the church for these two millennia of Christianity, and having been purified by the teaching of Holy Scripture through reformation theology, these orders of worship are tried and true. They are old, but not in the sense of worn out. Indeed, properly understood, these church orders are always new. The ancient psalms cry out with familiar words thousands of years old, “Sing unto the Lord a new song!” So old words become new song when sung to the Lord of life who makes all things new.
